Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that club legend Thierry Henry will make a return to the North London club one day. The Frenchman, who played for the Gunners between 1999 and 2007, scored 226 goals in 369 matches, across all competitions. He had a three-year spell at FC Barcelona between 2007 and 2010 after which he joined the New York Red Bulls.
He returned to the Emirates on loan in 2012 for two months and scored an injury-time winner against Sunderland in his last game. Henry left the MLS team on Monday, after spending four-and-half years there, scoring 52 goals in 135 games.
Speculation was rife that the 37-year-old will return to the Emirates Stadium after he changed his Facebook profile photo to a picture of the stadium. Arsenal have had a terrible start to their season, winning only 5 of the 13 games that they have played so far. They have managed to pocket only 20 points and if Henry does return to the club, it could serve as a boost for their flagging fortunes.
Calling him an ‘Arsenal man’, Wenger said that he understands that he needs time to reflect but sounded confident of him returning to the club in the future.
"I understand that he wants to reflect for a while on what he wants to do [next]. He is an Arsenal man. Certainly one day he will come back here. In what capacity, I don't know," the 65-year-old Frenchman said.
Henry confirmed the news of him leaving the Red Bulls on his Twitter page.
He also posted a message on his Facebook page, thanking the fans at the New York-based club.
