Manchester City thrashed Arsenal 6-3 at Etihad today. With their striker Olivier Giroud failing to impress in recent weeks and squandering numerous possibly game changing chances, he must become more clinical or should be benched for good. Let’s see some possible alternatives for the Frenchman.
1. Robin van Persie
Arsenal fans may hate me for this, but it is possible and would also be the logical option for Arsene Wenger. After a supposed fallout with David Moyes and with United currently languishing in 9th place, van Persie may want to leave, and as Arsenal currently sit on top of the Premier League, he may be attracted to return. However, he it is unlikely that the Arsenal fans would be very welcoming, while Wenger himself may want to leave him at United to suffer, as his behaviour to leave Arsenal wasn’t that of a top quality player.
2. Fernando Torres
Although it may seem stupid to put the Chelsea man in this list, as it is about taking chances and well Torres has become more famed for his spectacular misses at Chelsea than his goal scoring record. Though it seems that he may just need a change of scenery, as he still plays well for Spain, and with Jose Mourinho understood to have had enough with his lack of confidence, he may be looking to sell. Arsenal could pick him up for less than he is worth, and could re-find himself with Lukas Podolski, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla behind him.
3. Demba Ba
Ba has been continually linked with the Gunners in recent months after they missed out on the Senegal international on the summer window’s deadline day. Chelsea offered the former Newcastle man to AS Roma for around £12m, but it is understood that the high-flying Italian side will look elsewhere for a new striker. This could leave Arsenal as the only club interested and would let them take their time in negotiations, which could mean that a cut-price deal could be finalised.
