Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has committed his immediate future to the Spanish giants, quashing any transfer talk linking him with a move to Premier League leaders Arsenal.
The 20-year-old has been restricted to 11 appearances this campaign due to stiff competition for places in Madrid’s attack. As a result the youngster has been linked with a loan move to several sides as he seeks more first-team action.
Arsene Wenger reportedly targeted the Spaniard to bolster his striking options following an injury to Theo Walcott and fatigue concerns over Olivier Giroud.
However, Morata has now claimed that he is not interested in a temporary deal and effectively committed himself to the Bernabeu outfit for the remainder of the season.
“I have spoken with Carlo Ancelotti [Real Madrid coach] and the situation is clear. After many rumours about my future I can confirm that I am happy in Real,” he told The Metro.
Boss Ancelotti has been quick to dismiss talk of an exit for any member of his squad, insisting that he is happy with the players he has at his disposal, but Morata’s comments also hints that his long-term future will have to be assessed at the end of the season.
“The club considers that I am necessary for the team and I have decided to stay until the end of season. I play for the best club in the world and I am obliged to improve my work. This is my mission. In the summer? I do not know, we will have to talk,” Morata declared.
Alvaro Morata has not completed a full game for Real Madrid this season and has been introduced as a substitute in 10 of his 11 appearances.
