Arsenal transfer news: Nicklas Bendtner wants out of Arsenal

Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner has had enough of rotting in the reserves and is looking for fresh pastures. If reports in the Daily Mail are to believed, the player’s agent and father, Thomas Bendtner said,

Nicklas is 100 per cent open now to a change of clubs. He has made his decision and he has told it to Arsenal. Nicklas needs to be playing from the start so, sadly, he must leave.”

With the arrival of Marouane Chamakh earlier this season and Robin Van Persie’s record breaking (scoring in nine consecutive away matches in the premier league, 21 from the last 23 matches) exploits towards the end of the season Bendtner had to be content with cameos. In fact, he has made just 17 appearances this season finding the net a mere two times.

Bendtner: Looking for greener pastures

Nicklas Bendtner was signed in the summer of 2004 but was loaned out to Birmingham City in 2006-07 where he notched eleven goals from forty-two appearances. Although he was called back at the start of the next season, he’s always had a rough time of it at Arsenal which started with him seeing red in his first start for the club. From having a bust-up with teammate Emmanuel Adebayor during a League Cup semifinal match in 2008 to being goaded for a spate of missed chances, Bendtner had to endure a rough ride with his lowest moment coming when he was spotted leaving a night club after Arsenal were hammered 1-3 by Manchester United in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal in 2009.

March 2010 was the only time he hit a purple patch for the Gunners, scoring a hat-trick against Porto to overcome a first leg deficit of 1-2 and following that up with winners against Hull and Wolves. His efforts were duly appreciated and was voted Arsenal’s player of the month.

Chances became few and far between this season though he did achieve the distinction of becoming the first Gunner since the legendary Ian Wright to score a hat-trick in the FA Cup, a feat he achieved in a fifth round replay against League one side, Leyton Orient.

According to his agent both English as well German clubs have shown interest in services of the Dane though he did quash rumours that Aston Villa were favourites to land him this summer.
