Reports say that Arsenal are looking to sign disgruntled Wolfsburg star Julian Draxler. The Gunners are prepared to submit a bid of €35 million for the German and feel that his true potential could be realised at the Emirates.
According to RMC Sport, a French outlet, the Arsenal charge is being led by playmaker Mesut Ozil, who has insisted that Arsenal sign up his compatriot. Arsene Wenger could also use the signing to convince Mesut Ozil to sign his contract as well in a bid to make the German happy, who has a contract situation that is still unresolved.
Arsenal will face tough competition from Juventus, Atletico Madrid and PSG who have also prepared bids that matches their valuation of the player.
Julian Draxler has always been a player of contention and has been linked to several top clubs in the past. His days at Wolfsburg look numbered after being alienated from the first team. Things have gone to such an extent that according to rumours, Draxler has been training alone amidst all the transfer talks.
The 23-year-old had earlier been called an indispensable part of the Wolfsburg squad who had refused to listen to offers for the German. However, Wolfsburg’s director Klaus Allofs has admitted that he was wrong and their stance as a club towards the player has now changed.
"All that has changed is our basic stance compared to the summer, when we said that we did not want to sell him," Allofs told Sky Sports.
"That has proven not to have been a good decision, you've got to accept that now.
"If we are to receive an offer then we will consider it and see whether we react to it.
"We are not putting him up for sale or sticking a price tag on him, though, just to make that very clear."
The winger could thrive under Arsene Wenger as the coach has a solid reputation when it comes to developing young stars. The player should also settle comfortably in the squad since the team has a lot of German speaking players and Wenger is also adept with the language.
Draxler’s demand in the transfer market will obviously mean that Wolfsburg push up his price. It will be interesting to see who finally manages to match the Wolfsburg valuation and get the player.
