Arsenal’s goal machine dismisses Manchester United threat

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has told The London Evening Standard that the Gunners have no fear heading into their Premier League match at Old Trafford and believes they can last the distance in the title race.

Arsenal extended their wonderful run of form away from home, grabbing their 14th win from 15 unbeaten matches, against Borussia Dortmund last night.

Ramsey scored the winner in Germany to put Arsenal in control of their Champions League group and responded well to questions about whether Arsenal are worried about their trip to Manchester United.

“Absolutely not. They have had a bit of a rough start but they have overcome that now, I think. They have had a few good results in the League and will be getting their confidence back up but we are really confident ourselves. Our away record has been really good so hopefully we can continue building on that.

“We learned from the first game against Dortmund [when Arsenal lost 2-1 to a lateRobert Lewandowski goal]. We were caught on the counter-attack, even though we were quite dominant at that stage of the game.

“We came here and defended well as a team. I think we restricted them to long-range efforts and we did what they did to us the other day — caught us on the counter-attack and put the ball in the back of the net. We are delighted with the result.

“Dortmund is a difficult place to come. This is the Champions League, where all the best players in the world play. It was no easy task to come here and get the win. We will take an enormous amount of confidence from that and hopefully that will put us in a good position now to kick on and have a really successful season.”

United forward Wayne Rooney has taken a swipe at Arsenal’s early-season form, saying they will fall away.

“We’ve seen before that they’ve been in the top two until February or March and then faded away. We’ll have to wait and see where Arsenal are in March.”

Ramsey has scored 11 goals in 17 appearances for Arsenal this season. It took him 150 games to reach the same number of goals before the season started.
