Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed his side’s brilliant performance over the past week and, following the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, he has stated that it has been a ‘perfect week’ for him, as per the reports on ESPN. The Gunners enjoyed a stunning victory over Bayern Munich on Tuesday and they sit at the top of Premier League table with 22 points for the time being.
Arsenal first beat Watford last weekend. The club’s Champions League hopes were then revived after their massive victory against German champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday. It was then followed up by goals from French duo Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny at the weekend which fired the North London club to the top of the league table. Victory against the Toffees was the cherry on the top for all the Arsenal supporters.
At the moment, Wenger and his men are probably the ‘team to beat’ in Europe and they are finally showing some level of consistency, ever since they suffered a shocking defeat to Olympiacos in their Champions League group match, earlier this season.
“It is a perfect week and it is not easy to have that,” Wenger said.
“I believe that we will keep that solidarity, that desire to do well and I think we are well focused to do well, and together we have improved on that front and we know that when we have the ball we can create goal chances.”
“We went to Watford and won 3-0 and beat Bayern Munich 2-0 and beat Everton tonight in one week, it has been a fantastic week. It is not easy.
“The only negatives is that we lost some players through injury during the week, but I will have to rest some players Tuesday night against Sheffield [Wednesday in the Capital One Cup] as I think for some players I think it will be one game too many for them.”
I thought it would take much longer time to overtake Manchester City: Wenger
The club made a disastrous start to the campaign with a nightmare show against West Ham in front of the home crowd. Goals from Cheikhou Kouyate and Mauro Zarate were enough to dampen the early optimism at the club after a successful pre-season.
But things have changed over the past few months and the French manager has admitted he did not expect his side to be at the top of the table.
“I thought after 10 games, no, honestly,” he said. “I thought it would take much longer because Manchester City started with five wins, so it was difficult to envisage that we would come back, but we had no choice.
“But we are there, that shows we have made some ground up, so let's keep our togetherness and fight for the future games, that is all we can do. It is very early in the season but we are happy to be where we are.”
