Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is pleased his faith in giving Aaron Ramsey a new contract last year has paid off.
Ramsey was awarded a new long-term contract a year ago by Wenger but the decision drew criticism from some quarters as the Welshman’s form dipped.
He has now repaid that faith shown by Wenger with his stunning early-season form for the Gunners. Arsenal are top of the Premier League with Ramsey being one of the main reasons behind that after scoring 13 goals in all competitions so far this season.
He had scored 11 goals for Arsenal prior to the season starting but has more than doubled that with his superb displays.
“I felt it was the right decision but every time I had no doubt. I always said that he had a good attitude and good basic qualities and would come out of the bad patch in a strong way,” said Wenger.
“I did not predict he would score as many goals as that but I was always confident that he would make a good career.”
Wenger believes Ramsey can further improve, though. The midfielder suffered harsh abuse last season but has turned that around this season.
“When you’re a midfielder, you want to attack well, you want to defend well. You want to give assists and score goals. At the moment, he does all these four things very well and he can still improve.”
