Arsene Wenger insists that Atletico Madrid front-man Diego Costa‘s release clause is much more than £32 million. Wenger suggests that the Spain striker, who has been in red hot form this season, could cost the London club upto a staggering £145 million.
According to Daily Mirror, when the Arsenal boss was asked whether he was looking at Costa to solve his problems up-front, Wenger laughed it off and said: “What, £145m? Honestly, you want to keep your chances in the season at the best possible level.”
Arsenal have been scouting Costa for a while now as they look for a top quality striker to share Olivier Giroud‘s workload. With Giroud injured for the moment & Niklas Bendtner limping off after scoring against Cardiff City in the Premier League, Arsenal are definitely in the market for a striker.
On being asked whether he was looking for a short-term option to get through to the end of the season or a long term solution, Wenger said:
“Is it for short term or a stop-gap? Ideally, you want a longer solution. But a longer solution looks much more difficult to find in January than a short gap. You can find a solution somewhere – a club that has financial trouble and wants to get rid of a big contract for five or six months.”
“But to find in January exactly the player who will be tomorrow’s star on the longer term is much more difficult.” Wenger added.
