Arsène Wenger: Is it time to go?

It's getting tougher and tougher at the office

Arsenal fans have been constantly questioning Arsène Wenger's position and whether or not the board should reconsider their decision of sticking with him for the future for at least the last 5 years or so, but now the argument has reached its zenith.

Arsène Wenger's 2003-04 campaign shows just how Arsenal once heavily dominated English and European Football. The “Invincible” season is one to remember by all football fans around the world. What Wenger has achieved with Arsenal over the years has truly been terrific, but things have never been the same since then.

In the 2013-14 campaign, Arsenal finally managed to win a major trophy after beating Hull City in an epic FA Cup Final at Wembley. After going 2-0 down , they turned the tie around and the winning goal came from Aaron Ramsey in extra-time.

They also went on to win the FA Cup in the 2014-15 campaign and the 2016-17 campaign against Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively. However, life at the North London giants' has not eased up for Arsenè Wenger.

Even after winning a few trophies, Arsenal fans are still devastated because of various issues - activity in the the transfer market and player selection for crucial games are just the tip of the iceberg. However, biggest of them all has been a lack of inspiration from Wenger.

Every player needs a wake-up call from the coaching staff and the manager when the performances are not up to the mark - the constant screams from the likes of Conte and Klopp by the touchline are great examples.

This is what the critics find wrong with Wenger. At times, he gives the aura that things are okay even when they are not, and the attitude reflects on the club as well. There has been a lot of critic about Wenger being “too soft” with his players.

As a manager, it is great to be calm and content when it comes to the pre-match, half-time and post-game talks. However, sometimes you need a reaction from certain players that only comes with a bit of inspiration and motivation, sometimes even with a little aggression.

Football fans and pundits have started discussing if the Arsenal players have lost the hunger to win games and win trophies. But is it actually the manager who has lost that hunger?

Even though Arsené Wenger is a great manager and a great football coach, sometimes you can focus so much on development of the players and transfer market bargains that you forget why you are the manager of a top-flight club and that is, to win.

Arsenal recently lost 3-0 in the EFL Cup Final against Manchester City and are sitting 6th in the Premier League Table as we step into March. Their only hope for this season is to win the Europa League. With a draw against AC Milan in the next round, whose manager cannot be more different from the the mild-mannered Frenchman, it is not going to be a walk in the park.

A lack of results and voices being raised from left, right and centre about Arsenè, the board have an important decision to make about the future.

It will be interesting to see if the longest-serving manager in the Premier League is shown the door or if he decides to resign at the end of the season.

Who knows? He might even stay on as the manager of Arsenal for years to come.
