Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised Chelsea’s on-loan keeper at Atletico Madrid in what could be the Frenchman’s first attempt at charming the 21-year-old youngster into joining his club.

Wenger spoke about the Belgian’s club Atletico Madrid’s performance so far this season and also their back bone in maintaining the defense, Courtois. He said : “They have a good defence and above all a very good goalkeeper [Courtois]. I would consider them surprise candidates.

“Previously as a manager you could point to three or four teams who had the potential to win the competition. Nowadays, more like 10 teams can win.”

Atletico have been unbeaten in their latest La Liga campaign winning 8 games having played as many games, beating derby rivals Real Madrid 1-0 in the run.They are currently in second place with 24 points with Barcelona ahead on goal difference.
