Arsene Wenger reveals what he believes is Jack Wilshere’s best position

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he still has a ‘huge desire to win every game’ despite 17 years in charge of the club.

Wenger has led his side to the top of the Premier League table with an impressive start to the season but their lead was cut short at the weekend following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

The 64-year-old is yet to agree to a new contract with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

However, he insists the hunger for more success is still there as the club have gone eight years without a trophy.

Speaking in a Q&A on the club’s official Twitter feed, the Arsenal manager said: “Certainly, I have a few more wrinkles [now but] what has stayed the same is the huge desire to win every single game.”

Wenger was asked a wide range of questions including who he thought was a better player between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, questions about his coat and whether or not he would consider managing Southend one day.

He was also asked about where he thought Jack Wilshere fitted into his team considering Aaron Ramsey’s superb performances this season have cut the chances of the England international featuring in an attacking midfield slot.

“His best position is as a deep-lying midfielder, where he can be a distributor. He has a good burst and vision,” said Wenger.

The Frenchman, who is now the longest-serving manager in the Premier League, also touched on his side’s nervous start to their defeat to United, pointing out that they paid a heavy price for their poor start.

In 973 games for Arsenal, Wenger has won an impressive 57.14% of them (556W, 230D, 187L).
