On the other side of the international break, Arsenal face the unenviable task of facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The Bavarians’ current form makes them a daunting force for anyone to reckon with, but Arsene Wenger believes his side have a measure of Pep Guardiola’s machine, as per The Mirror.
The Gunners have lost both their games in Europe so far and a win against Bayern Munich would do their hopes for progress from the group much good. Bayern have won both games in their group so far and will look to continue that run when they come up against the London club. However, the Arsenal boss is confident that his side can beat the defending German champions.
Speaking during the international break, he spoke about the style that they need to adopt when they come up against their Bavarian opponents in the Champions League. He said: “
You mean how to beat the unbeatable?
"First of all, by doing exactly what we have done against Manchester United, playing at a huge pace and by playing with the same belief and by not letting them dictate the game.
“Bayern likes to have the ball, they like to get you back and so we have to win the ball well and be very well-organised and to use our opportunities to go forward with the maximum pace.”
He also spoke about how the 3-0 victory against Manchester United was significant for the Gunners. He cited their previous loss and the magnitude of the Red Devils as a club in his reasoning for how the win helped them a lot.
“The United game was significant on two fronts,” Wenger said.
"First of all, we had a very disappointing result three days before against Olympiacos and of course that was a huge shock and secondly it was for us an opportunity to get two points behind the leader, level with Manchester United.
“We also beat them, and on top of that, the third, in recent years we have not beaten United in Championship so on three fronts it was a vital win for us.”
The win will put a spring in Arsenal’s step for sure but before they face Bayern Munich in the first of their 2 group ties, Arsene Wenger's men must go to Vicarage Road to face Watford in the Premier League. Given Arsenal’s performance against Manchester United, it would be difficult to argue with their boss at the moment.
