Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he envisages Jack Wilshere’s future role being that of a deep-lying midfielder due to his effective distribution skills.
In a Twitter question and answer session held by the club’s official account, Wenger fielded questions from Wilshere’s role to the possibility of one day managing Southend United.
Wenger revealed that he considers Wilshere to be more suited to a deeper position: “His best position is as a deep-lying midfielder, where he can be a distributor. He has a good burst and vision.”
Asked to weigh into the eternal Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo debate, Wenger was diplomatic: ”It’s difficult, Messi was on top until now but in the last year maybe Ronaldo is in front, he is very athletic.”
And finally, Wenger was approached about managing Southend one day, “Honestly, I like the name but I have never considered it as I haven’t had to look for a job!”
Wilshere’s distribution was highlighted by Wenger as a key part of his game, having completed 84% of all his passes so far this season.
