Monaco have spent over £100m already this summer, capturing the likes of Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid and James Rodriguez from FC Porto.
Now the newly-promoted side are looking to add Liverpool’s 28-year-old defender as they look to play catch-up with France’s other super-rich side, Paris Saint Germain.
But Brendan Rodgers has no intention of selling the Danish defender, who had a solid season for the Reds, remaining injury free and starting nearly all of the Reds Premier League games.
The Merseyside outfit will likely be confident about keeping Agger, having seen off interest from then Premier League champions Manchester City, who made a £20 million bid last summer.
Without Champions League football, Monaco’s major draw is their offer of high, tax-free wages, but it is likely Agger will be more inclined to stay at a club where he will play a key role.
With Jamie Carragher retiring and the future of both Sebastian Coates and Martin Skrtel still unknown, Agger is the only senior central defender left at the club, though he will be joined by Kolo Toure.
It is an area of the field Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen in the summer transfer window, with both Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Tiago Ilori being considered as potential additions.
