Mark Clattenburg’s racism case seems to have taken a new twist, as the British press reports that Ashley Cole was the latest to be interviewed by the F.A over the incident.
Clattenburg was accused of using racial abuse at Chelsea‘s John Obi Mikel during the match against Manchester United on October 28th.
Assistant referees in the match and Clattenburg and Mikel have all been interviewed by the F.A already and a decision was expected this week. But now the late decision to interview Cole too has apparently delayed the F.A’s decision.
The left back was interviewed by the F.A investigators at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
This is the second time Cole has been called upon as a witness in a racial abuse case. The first one, that of John Terry abusing Anton Ferdinand, didn’t go too well for Cole, as he was branded as an unreliable witness for making changes to his initial statement.
It remains to be seen what stance he takes in this one, and how it affects the case.
Apparently the F.A has now asked for external legal advice on charging Clattenburg under the Rule E3 (1) and (2), which involves abusive language and racial abuse also. According to the Guardian, a decision is expected on Thursday or Friday.
