You may or not know that Ashley Cole regularly gives away Chelsea tickets on Twitter without much fanfare.
Picking a fan at random, he puts tickets behind the box office for the lucky winner. This never usually causes problems or headlines until he accidently awarded the tickets for the Manchester United FA Cup game to a Manchester United fan.
This was not immediately apparent, and when Cole found out, he was forced to withdraw the offer, most likely due to rules around fan segregation.
Cole, however, realizing his mistake, instead offered him a signed shirt.
The United fan did not take it well and did not understand why, getting quite upset, which I can understand, but then sought to publicize his story in a halfhearted attempt.
He then got a lot of abuse from Chelsea fans, some of which he invited but some was uncalled for, and it all got a bit messy and farcical.
A great sentiment from Cole, shame how it turned out, was shocked by the sense of entitlement that followed a free give-away, and just shows sometimes you can’t win even when trying to be good!
I hope this does not deter Cole in the future.
