Ashley Young is set to miss England‘s international friendly match against Scotland on Wednesday according to ESPN.
The Manchester United winger has failed to recover from an ankle injury suffered in training. The winger was sidelined for much of the club’s tours to Asia and Australia, where he featured just once, and also missed Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial and the Community Shield on Sunday.
Young is expected to return to his club to receive further treatment ahead of the opening round of the Premier League this weekend.
“Manchester United forward Ashley Young has withdrawn from the England squad”, the FA announced in a statement on Sunday.
“Following discussions between Club England medical staff and their counterparts at the club, it was clear that Young would not be ready for the match with Scotland on Wednesday.”
