Zheng Zhi is one of the pioneer midfielders of the Chinese national team apart from being their current captain. He has experience in playing premier league football with Charlton Athletic for 2 years from 2007-2009.
He has nine goals to his name from the 67 appearances he has made for the national team. In 2009, he had moved to the Scottish premier league club Celtic, where he made 16 appearances form them scoring one goal. In 2010, he moved back to Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande and has represented them in 186 games, scoring 15 goals.
The 38-year-old midfielder has been part and parcel fo the Chinese national football team since 2002 and has been capped 104 times. He was named in the AFC Asian Cup all-time best XI and has been awarded the Asian Footballer of the Year honour in 2013.
He was part of the 2004 AFC Asian Cup Chinese team that finished as Runners-up to Japan. He also participated in 2007 and 2015 AFC Asian Cup and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup will be his fourth appearance in the tournament, and probably his last.
