Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte sustained on Thursday a fracture of his right leg and a dislocation of his right ankle during the match between the Under-21 football teams of France and Scotland in Angers, his club confirmed on Friday.
Bilbao added that on his return here in the coming hours, Laporte will be subjected to further tests after which the extent of the injury and the absence period will be determined, but all evidence points, with less than two months left, to him missing the rest of the season, reports Efe.
His injury occurred 59 minutes into the France-Scotland clash in the qualifiers for the European Under-21 Championship, when he fell with the whole weight of his body on his right leg after a struggle to get the ball out of the French area.
"I inform you that after the first analysis the results are negative. Tomorrow I have more tests and I'll let you know. Thank you for all the messages of support! You are great. #AL4," said the defender to his fans on Instagram.
Media reports on Thursday suggested that the player is on the radar of Manchester City to be part of the plans of their new head coach Pep Guardiola next season.
