Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal with Real Sociedad for the transfer of the French winger Antoine Griezmann, with the transfer fee reported to be £24 million. The move was agreed after Atletico met the release clause in Griezmann’s contract.
The deal will be formalised and the player officially unveiled once he completes his medical. The deal ended all speculation of him joining Tottenham Hotspur, after they were reported to have made a £20m bid for the 23-year-old winger.
The Frenchman’s transfer is the second major departure this summer from Real Sociedad as Claudio Bravo, their Chilean goalkeeper moved to Barcelona in a £12 million deal.
On the other hand, the defending La-Liga champions have also had numerous squad changes since their victory in May. Striker Diego Costa, left-back Filipe Luis and goalkeeper Thibaut Coutois all moved to Chelsea while David Villa was signed by New York City FC.
Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid would be hoping to retain the La-Liga title when they play next season. Griezmann joins the former Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic and Angel Correa as the new signings at Atletico Madrid.
