Inter Milan are on the verge of completing a £10.6m deal for Atletico Madrid defender Miranda after the Brazil international underwent a medical with the Italian giants, as reported by the Daily Mail. The 30-year-old defender was linked with Inter throughout this summer and is now expected to sign a three-year deal with them.
This will be Inter Milan’s second big signing of the summer after bringing in French international Geoffrey Kondogbia from Sevilla in a £25 million deal. Apart from these signings, many other players are being linked with a move to San Siro including John Obi Mikel, Martin Montoya and Lucas Leiva.
Roberto Mancini, who returned to Inter for a second spell, after winning three Serie A titles in a row with the club during his first stint, is in need of some fresh faces at the club after they finished a disappointing 8th in the league with 55 points. At the same time, Mancini faces a challenge in holding onto his key players as versatile midfielder Mateo Kovacic has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool.
Miranda joined Atletico Madrid from Sao Paulo and has amassed over 100 appearances for the club.
He was an integral part of the defence alongside club captain Diego Godin, helping the Rojablancos win a historic league title during the 2013/14 season, becoming the first club since Valencia to win a league title outside of Spain’s top two – Barcelona and Real Madrid. For his performances, he was nominated as one of the best defenders in La Liga that season.
His most famous moment in an Atletico Madrid shirt came when he scored an extra-time winner in the 2012/13 Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, which gave them their first victory over Real Madrid in a decade.
He made his full international debut for Brazil in 2009 and was a member of the squad which won the Confederations Cup that year.
Atletico Madrid had earlier parted ways with Croatian international Mario Mandzukic who joined Juventus for a fee of €19m. Turkish international Arda Turan is next in line to leave after his agent confirmed his client’s departure within the next few days as Atletico Madrid had given in to the player’s wish to leave the club.
