Atletico Madrid enters Europa League Final 2010

Atletico Madrid has entered the Europa League final by defeating Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday.. Liverpool won the semifinal second leg by 2-1, however they lagged behind Madrid in aggregate to reach the final. It was a wonderful performance by Diego Forlan who scored a crucial goal in extra time to put his team Atletico Madrid through the finals.

Liverpool has lost the semifinal first leg by 1-0. Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani scored a goal for the Liverpool ending the game in tie in the first half. However, in the second half of the game ,no team was able to score a goal and match went for an extra time after the end of 90 minutes. There was a moment for rejoice for the hosts Liverpool when Yossi Benayoun scored a goal to put his team into lead against Madrid.

However Liverpool’s hope dashed when Diego Forlan stroked a goal seven minutes later that is in 102nd minute to put an end to his team’s misery.

Atletico Madrid will now face Fulham on May 12 for the Europa League finals in Hamburg. Fulham defeated Hamburg by on Thursday 2-1 in the semifinal second leg to secure their place in the finals.
