Atletico de Madrid, also known as Club Atletico de Madrid, is a Spanish football club based in Madrid who play in La Liga. The club was originally founded on 26 April 1903 as Athletic Club de Madrid by 3 Basque students who were living in Madrid at the time.
In 1904, they were joined by dissident members of Real Madrid. By 1939, when La Liga had resumed, Athletic had merged with Aviacion Nacional of Zaragoza to become Athletic Aviacion de Madrid. The years from 1947-1965 was the golden age of the club.
Under current manager Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid have been able to break the duopoly of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the La Liga as they won the league title in the 2013-14 season - after 10 years of Barcelona-Real Madrid dominance.
Atletico Madrid are usually very active in the transfer windows and they are constantly linked with the cream of the crop in the football world.
In this 2017/18 season, many Athletico Madrid Transfers took place and the club has also made quite a few remarkable sales. Yannick Carrasco and Nico Gaitan left the club to join DL Yifang of the Chinese Super League for £27 million and £5.18 million respectively whereas Diego Costa arrived from Chelsea on a deal that was agreed in the summer.
Promising youngster Theo Hernandez was sold to cross-city rivals Real Madrid for a sum of £5.18 million in the summer of 2017. Oliver Torres, Matias Kranevitter, Javier Manquillo, Augusto Fernandez, Santos Borre and Amath Ndiaye were the other notable departures.
