Atletico Madrid player Cristian Ansaldi was arrested by police after catching a policeman’s hand in his car door. The Argentinian international was on his way to watch his team-mates play the 2nd leg of the Copa del Rey match against Barcelona.
Inside Spanish Football reported that the episode happened when Ansaldi was driving and trying to get to the Vicente Calderon, but the police had already secured the access to the players’ parking space. The Argentinian, despite the blockage, was adamant on getting into the stadium and came out of the car and tried removing the barriers and sneaking in.
As he was alighting his car, his attempts to close the vehicle’s door saw his catch a policeman’s hand with the door. He was instantly taken into custody and taken to the Arganzuela station.
The defender, who is on loan from Zenit Saint Petersburg was finally set free on Thursday morning at 12:55 am and was escorted by Clemente Villaverde, the club director and Ricardo Sanchez, the head of security at the club. It is reported that he will be back in training by Thursday.
The match was won 3-2 by Barcelona on the night and moved to the semi-finals with a 4-2 win on aggregate.
