Atletico Madrid manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin today said that the Spanish club would not stand in the way of their talismanic striker, Radamel Falcao, if he decides to leave the Copa Del Rey champions in search of greener pastures.
Speaking at Singapore, where Atletico are set to play a charity match, Marin stated, “Before the start of the season we talked with (Falcao) and we promised him if he keeps the same performance and he helps us to arrive to the UEFA Champions League next season, Atletico will help you. Any decision he will take, Atletico will be with him.”
Marin seemed unconcerned at the prospect of finding a replacement of sufficient calibre.
‘Atletico knows how to change a good striker – Fernando Torres, [Diego] Forlan, [Sergio] Aguero, now Falcao,’ he added.
‘I don’t know exactly which will be the next one, but you can be sure Atletico will have a strong team next season.’
Falcao, nicknamed ‘El Tigre’, looks to be heading towards England with Manchester City and Chelsea quite keen to get his signature on a contract. French club Monaco are also keen to sign the Colombian who has scored 70 goals in the two seasons he has played with Atletico after they signed him from Porto for 35 million pounds.
