Robin Van Persie has the potential to lead Manchester United

Australia assistant coach Ante Milicic has tipped The Netherland’s striker and captain Robin Van Persie to lead Manchester United next season.

The Oranje under the leadership of Van Persie look like a confident unit after they demolished Spain 5-1 in their opening game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Current Holland manager Louis Van Gaal who will take over as the new manager of the Manchester United has a tough job in his hands as he will have to work hard to revive the fortunes of the Red Devils after a dismal performance the team had to endure last season.

Milicic feels that Van Persie will be the obvious choice for Van Gaal when the former dons his club jersey.

On being asked to make a comment on Van Gaal's mindset ahead of his move this summer, he said: "You know one thing, that a man with that kind of experience and that kind of professionalism has been in similar situations in football and he's got enough experience to deal with those situations.”

"It could work both ways. Maybe he does have one eye on his Manchester United job. Or maybe now his future is sorted for after the World Cup he can spend even more time on the Dutch national team.

“Straight off the top of your head, you can think, look Van Persie's there, he's got him as the captain of his team in Holland, he could possibly be the new captain now at Man United. So there's already some kind of a link going on there," added Milicic.

Milicic felt that Van Gaal’s departure to the Old Trafford won’t distract the Holland team in any manner as they are all professionals who are well versed to deal with such kind of situations.

"These are all big players that are all professional," said the Socceroos assistant coach.

Soceroos who will face The Netherlands on 18th June 2014 at Porto Alegre said that the Soceroos must brace themselves to face the Oranje who are currently looking dangerous after their win over Spain.

"We know that (Van Gaal) is very experienced and quite adaptable with different formations, whether that be 3-5-2, every kid in Holland knows how to play 4-3-3, which we as Australians know well," he said.

"We all know about the class they have going forward. They're a great footballing nation with high expectations," added Milicic.
