The UEFA Euro 2024 Round-of-16 action will conclude on Tuesday (July 2) as Austria and Turkey square off at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. The Austrians concluded their group-stage campaign with a five-goal thriller against the Netherlands.
They took an early lead courtesy of Donyell Malen's sixth-minute own goal. Cody Gakpo drew the game level two minutes into the second half, but Romano Schmid restored Austria's lead just before the hour mark. Memphis Depay equalised in the 75th minute to set up a grand-stand finish, but Marcel Sabitzer scored the winner for Austria five minutes later.
The win saw Das Team finish at the summit of Group D with six points from three games. Turkey, meanwhile, claimed a 2-1 victory over Czechia. The Czechs were reduced to 10 men in the first half following Antonin Barak's double booking.
Turkey made their numerical advantage count after the break when Hakan Calhanoglu put them ahead in the 51st minute. Tomas Soucek drew the game level midway through the second half, but Cenk Tosun scored a dramatic winner in the fourth minute of injury time.
The win saw the Crescent-Stars advance to the knockouts as runners-up in Group F with six points. The winner of this tie will face Romania or the Netherlands in the quarterfinal.
