FC Barcelona v Manchester United - UEFA Champions League Quarter Final: Second Leg
It is not always that you can blame David De Gea for United’s misfortunes. The Spaniard has been exceptional for United and has often singlehandedly won his team the game. Unfortunately, this season, De Gea has been far from his best and against Barcelona at Nou Camp, his error had a huge impact on the outcome of the game.

For the first goal, there isn’t much that the Spaniard could have done. Lionel Messi skipped past Young, Jones, and Smalling as if there weren’t even there on the field and then curved the ball into the far corner, just beyond the diving De Gea. If the first goal was a pure genius from the Argentine, the second was a howler from United’s Spanish goalkeeper.
Barcelona broke free from the midfield and ran at United. Messi found the ball near the box and ran at the goal. He then aimed a soft hit from his right from towards De Gea, more in hope than in expectation. Sadly, the Spaniard allowed the ball to go under him and into the goal.
De Gea did try to redeem himself with a decent clearance late in the first half, but by then, the damage had been done. And he could do nothing for Coutinho’s goal either.

Inspired by Diego Maradona, Deepungsu played as an attacking midfielder for his local club at subdivision level in his initial years and scored an important goal or two. However, his all-time favorite footballer is Lionel Messi, and evidently, he feels Argentina's glory in 2022 is his favorite FIFA World Cup moment for fulfilling his long-standing dream. He is also an ardent East Bengal fan.
Deepungsu has been a Manchester United supporter since the year 2000. Unsurprisingly, his favorite manager is Sir Alex Ferguson and the Scotsman helped him get through some of the toughest days of his life. Like the fiery Scot, Deepungsu also leaves no stone unturned when it comes to accuracy in articles and only relies on credible sources.
Despite believing in Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to create an iconic rivalry, Deepungsu reckons no one can match the longevity of Messi and Ronaldo. He spends his leisure time writing about life on his blog, reading books, and playing the guitar.
