#1 Resting a chunk of first-team players for the midweek tie
FC Barcelona have a 4-1 advantage over AS Roma going into the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday. But it was expected that Ernesto Valverde will give a rest to a number of his senior members for the upcoming big games in the season.
And as predicted, the likes of Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Samuel Umtiti and Jordi Alba were given the day off to keep the spine of the team fresh for the midweek action.
Despite not having four key members, Barcelona steamrolled past Leganes riding on the back of a Lionel Messi hattrick. It reflected the solid bench strength that Barcelona possess which resulted in a routine victory for the Catalans.
The league leaders got the three points, maintained their lead at the top of the pile, continued their unbeaten run and also achieved squad rotation to keep the players fresh for their European ambitions.
