FC Barcelona have acted swiftly and hired ex-captain Luis Enrique as their new manager on a 2 year deal.
The club directors met Andoni Zubizaretta, the sporting director earlier today and agreed to his recommendation of hiring Enrique as the new manager.
Luis Enrique was a well loved player at Barcelona, who rose to become captain of the club despite the supporters’ initial reluctance considering he had also played for Real Madrid before joining Barcelona.
His managerial career so far has seen him manage AS Roma and Celta Vigo. At Roma, he did not have a very successful time, as the club didn’t qualify for European football while he was the manager at Celta Vigo till last week, when he announced his resignation.
Enrique’s first managerial role was at Barcelona B, when he took over the reins from Pep Guardiola in 2008 when Guardiola moved to coach the first team.
