MADRID (AFP) –
Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba could miss his side’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg with Paris Saint-Germain on April 2, the club confirmed on Sunday.
Alba suffered a hamstring strain in Spain’s 1-1 draw with Finland on Friday night and has definitely been ruled out of the World champions’ clash with France on Tuesday, but should only be sidelined for a maximum of 10 days.
“Jordi Alba will be out for seven to ten days,” said a statement on the club’s website.
“The tests carried out by the medical services of FC Barcelona confirmed that the full-back has a strain of the hamstring in his right leg.
“Therefore, should he complete this period, Alba will miss the meeting with France on Tuesday and his presence is doubtful for the games against Celta Vigo and Paris Saint-Germain.”
Barca’s defensive resources have already been stretched in recent weeks by the loss of Adriano and Carles Puyol to injury.
