Smart move!

What’s the story?

It's been almost 6 months since Neymar left Barcelona. The Catalan side are yet to replace him and are desperate to sign a winger in January.

As per reports in SPORT, Barcelona are set to launch a €45 million (plus €15 million bonuses) bid for Angel di Maria. The PSG star is up for sale after the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

In case you didn’t know…

Paris Saint-Germain activated Neymar's €222 million release clause in the summer and signed him up. The move left everyone stunned but Barcelona have tried their best to move on from it.

The loss of Neymar has not been a significant one for Barcelona but they are still trying to sign a replacement for him. Ousmane Dembele was signed but the winger got injured straight away.

The heart of the matter

Barcelona have reignited their Di Maria after their summer move for him was blocked by UEFA. Reports suggested that Barca had agreed a deal with PSG for Di Maria and the player was set to move back to Spain.

According to the Metro, the move was blocked by UEFA as they were investigating Paris Saint-Germain for their transfer activities. It's claimed that the paper works were in possession of the UEFA officials for checking and they did not let the transfer take place.

The move for Di Maria could end their pursuit of Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian has always been their #1 choice but is proving to be too costly for them. Liverpool are playing hardball and are not willing to let him go easily.

Author’s Take

Di Maria would be a brilliant fit for Barcelona right now. But once they sign another striker and have Dembele back to full fitness, the Argentine's role will again be limited.
