It is now common knowledge that Rooney did submit a transfer request two weeks ago, and the recent appointment of David Moyes as Manchester United manager will only be further motivation for the striker to move away, considering his turbulent relationship with his former boss.
El Mundo Deportivo recently suggested that Barcelona too would also be interested in the Manchester United striker, joining the race with Chelsea and Bayern Munich to sign him.
Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova had expressed his admiration for Wayne Rooney years ago, when he said, ”Rooney I really like and I was worried in the final of the Champions League. I felt the same when we played Villa and Valencia.”
Barcelona signed David Villa soon in the following year, and the Spanish daily expects a similar move from Barcelona to sign Rooney, and is quite sure that Wayne Rooney fits Barcelona’s needs this summer.
