Barcelona didn't treat me well: Luis Figo

Barcelona supporters burn a portrait of Portugese footballer Luis Figo.

Barcelona supporters burn a portrait of Portugese player Luis Figo, 21 October 2000 who left the club for Real Madrid this season, during the 1st divison match of the Spanish championship, Barcelona vs Real Madrid, at the Nou Camp in Barcelona.

Retired Portuguese legend Luis Figo made his thoughts on his former club Barcelona clear in an interview to Spanish website Sport.

“They didn’t treat me well, that made me angry,” said Figo. “Even though time went by, I was still angry and irritated because those responsible for the club did not value me.”

Figo’s move to Barcelona’s arch-rival Real Madrid back in 2000 is still considered as one of the most controversial transfer moves of all time.

“I was the player the president (Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez) wanted. I don’t know what happened. One minute, I went to the bench without explanation. I felt that it was a way to hurt me.”

“Messi and Ronaldo are both fantastic. I’d like to have both players in my team,” said Figo when asked to pick a favourite between Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
