Barcelona make early Mats Hummels bid

According to BILD, a German sports daily, the La Liga champions are in advanced negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over their centre-back Mats Hummels. The all important defender for BVB is valued at around 30 million pounds.

Barcelona are looking to consolidate their defense and want a replacement for Carles Puyol, who turned 35 this year. They were expected to fill this position during the summer window itself, but suprisingly, other than acquisition of Neymar they did not do any other business.

The Barca captain is no longer the player he used to be. Age seems to have taken its toll and Mascherano is not what you would call an ideal centre-back. Bartra lacks experience. So it makes perfect sense for them to bring in a proven talent in the form of Hummels.

It looks like BVB are already in pursuit of Fabian Schar, a super talented 21-year old centre-back for FC Basel. He is also in the wish list of other leading clubs like Arsenal and Juventus.

Only time will tell. Let’s wait and watch.
