As we all know a survey is always subjective and open to many interpretations. However surveys, if done well, can provide great insights, reveal tendencies and capture a trend that could be extremely interesting. Spanish Sports daily “AS” contracted the firm “IKERFEL” to survey Spanish football spectators in all 20 First Division stadiums about which is the most popular club.
The result has deemed FC Barcelona as the most popular football club in Spain overtaking Real Madrid: 44 % vs 37%. The firm Ikerfel asked 70 spectators at all the 20 stadiums these questions:
1. Which three teams, apart from your own, do you feel sympathy or admiration?2. Which team causes you apathy ( or in the jargon , dislike)?
The graph shown above ( image courtesy of AS) answers the first question with FC Barcelona being the most popular Spanish football club. In the graph, the blue colour shows the first choice of the spectators, grey the second choice and orange the third.
This second graph highlights the results of the second question of which club do spectators feel apathy (or dislike) for. Here Real Madrid wins over Barça, with Sevilla FC in 3rd place.
The last serious official survey done on the issue was by the public authority “CIS” ( Centro Investigaciones Sociológicas ) back in 2007 and Real Madrid was the most admired club then. Things have obviously changed since then, with the inflow of immigration which has increased the following of Barcelona, the lack of titles by Real Madrid in the last few years and the “Mourinho” effect all having played a part in this survey’s results.
The result is that FC BARCELONA is the most popular Football Club in Spain overtaking REAL MADRID : 44 % vs 37%. The firm IKERFEL asked 70 spectators at all the 20 stadiums these questions:
1. Which three team , apart from your own , do they feel sympathy for , or admiration.2. Which team causes you apathy ( or in the jargon , dislike).
