Barcelona register 6-1 win over Getafe

Barcelona gave a fitting reply to Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Sevilla yesterday as they registered a six goal win over Getafe in the Liga BBVA. Alexis Sanchez, who was criticized for his poor form, opened the scoring with a brilliant goal in the 6th minute. The next goal was scored by Lionel Messi who was unstoppable in front of the goal. Even though Barcelona went into the game without their star Xavi, they managed to get the 3 points. With this emphatic win, Barcelona move 12 points clear of 2nd placed Atletico Madrid, although the latter have a game in hand over Barcelona.

Iniesta was the play-maker for Barcelona as he gave a brilliant diagonal pass to Sanchez and also supported Messi on the flanks. Messi missed a chance when he volleyed the ball onto the post from a Sanchez cross. In the 58th minute, Alba gave a beautiful slide-rule pass to David Villa who had no problems in netting the goal.

The rest of the match went on sloppily with each team creating and taking chances. After Tello was replaced with Sanchez in the 73rd minute, he immediately netted a brilliant goal in the 79th minute. This goal probably sealed the victory for Barcelona. In the 90th minute, Iniesta took a chance at the goal and slotted it into the net.

Alvaro got the one and only goal which was a consolation for Getafe. Defender Gerard Pique also got a goal in the dying seconds from a Thiago pass which made the score 6-1.

This win puts Barcelona 16 points ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid.
