Barcelona star Xavi says Phillip Lahm can be a top midfielder

Barcelona midfielder, considered to be the best in Europe has showered praises on Bayern Munich captain and defender Phillip Lahm.

Lahm, who plays right-back for his club Bayern Munich and the German national team, is being used as a defensive midfielder by new coach Pep Guardiola and the player has not only performed well but also justified himself in the position.

Xavi told Bild, “Lahm is a top player with a lot of personality, who can play anywhere on the pitch.”

“He has what it takes to be a top midfield player. The way Lahm has been playing in recent games, I think it is impossible that anybody could have played any better there. He seems to be getting even better.”

“In the 1-1 draw with Leverkusen last weekend he completely dominated the midfield. He had 115 touches.”

Guardiola also spoke about his captain and said, “He understands the game. Not all players do.

“A lot of players understand his position. Philipp can play in all positions. Football is a game where people move and you have to decide in one second what’s going on in your position as well as all around the field, and what he decides in that moment is right.”
