A sad turn of event for Barcelona’s Argentinian international defender Gabriel Milito saw him leaving the world’s best club to return to his native club Independiente in Argentina, which plays in the first division of the Argentina League.
Announcing his desire to return to Argentina while on national duty during the Copa America last month, Milito himself confirm his move from the Catalans on Thursday though he has one year left on his contract.
The 30 year old has fallen out of favour with Coach Pep Guardiola and is often seen warming the bench, which prompted him to make the move.
At his official unveiling, Milito expressed his happiness to be associated with Independiente and said-
“I am very happy to be able to return to my country and my home. I felt the necessity to return to Independiente. We got together and talked about this possibility, and finally it could be completed,”
“Today is a very special and emotional day for me, I left the club eight years ago and the truth is that I always dreamed of returning, so this is a dream come true. I hope this stint will be as good as my first one.”
Younger brother of Inter Milan’s striker Diego Milito, started his career in 1997 with Independiente in Argentina before moving to Spain in 2003 to Real Zaragoza. His performance there prompted Barcelona to procure him in 2007 for a five years contract which runs till 2012 summer.
