Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, is ready to make a bid for Barcelona's out-of-favour keeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, this summer, report The Mirror. The 24-year-old German has failed to nail down a starting spot in Luis Enrique's side since moving from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014.
Guardiola, meanwhile, is said to be hesitant on the prospect of having Joe Hart between the sticks all season. The Englishman has endured a rough couple of years and hasn't been in the best of form for both club and country – especially after a poor UEFA European Championships where he conceded two poor goals against Wales and Iceland.
Hart didn't even start the recent friendly against Arsenal in Sweden where he came on as a second-half substitute and conceded two goals to lose to the Gunners. Hart didn't have the best of club seasons last time around conceding a whopping 36 goals in 20 matches.
Pep will be worried about the Englishman's confidence and is considering bringing in Barcelona's keeper to ensure he has a top keeper all season long – irrespective of form. What's even worse for Hart is that Pep is a fan of the whole 'sweeper keeper' style – something Hart isn't particularly known for – which further fuels the transfer rumour.
Ter Stegen is more suited to Pep's style and could make the first team if he switched the Camp Nou for the Etihad and Barcelona will ensure they're paid a hefty sum to part with their star. City have already brought in Nolito, Ilkay Gundagon, Oleksandr Zinchekov, Aaron Mooy and John Stones this summer and are willing to spend a lot more to bring in another striker and keeper.
Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri and Wilfred Bony are all expected to depart the club this season as Pep – for the first time in his career – has had to rebuilt a squad that didn't win or stand a chance to win the title last season around.
