Barcelona vs Real Madrid: 5 Reasons Why It's Hard to Believe that David Villa Insulted Islam

THE BIG FIGHT

The hype created on the web and social networking websites after the 2nd leg of the Spanish Super Cup was insane. The web was concerned more about the altercation between the players in the dying moments of the game rather than the result itself. It was all the aftermath of a disgusting scissor tackle from Marcelo on Barcelona‘s newly signed star Cesc Fabregas. The dirtiest rumour which came up was about David Villa, accusing him of racial abuse towards Mesut Ozil and his religion. It is really hard to believe that Villa had racially abused Ozil and here are 5 reasons why-

1) Ozil has no twitter account-The rumour caught fire mostly due to the fact that it was reported Ozil tweeted on his account the following words-

“I started because I was defending my religion, because David Villa has insulted Islam.”

Later Ozil’s team-mate Sami Khedira tweeted “Mesut Ozil doesnt have official Twitter and any declarations attributed to him and claims to be Mesut Ozil are all fake. Please RT,Your Sami”. The fact that Ozil’s twitter account was fake means that Ozil still hasn’t said anything about his spat with David Villa in public till now and there is no explanation from Ozil till now whatsoever.

2) David Villa has 3 Muslim team-mates-David Villa has three team-mates who are Muslim- Ibrahim Afellay, Seydou Keita and Eric Abidal and he gets along well with all of them. So it looks highly improbable that when he is so comfortable with his Muslim team-mates, he would he be the one to launch a racist attack towards Ozil.

3) The Language Barrier-Mesut Ozil is Turkish-German and has moved to Madrid recently, so he is still not well versed with the Spanish language. If Villa said anything, it must have been in Spanish and citing the fact that Ozil is not very fluent in the language and also the high noise levels in the stadium at that time, it is even harder to believe that Ozil heard or picked up anything which is racially abusive.

4) The Anti-Racism Clause-David Villa was the first player in the history of the game to have agreed to an ANTI-RACISM clause in his contract. The anti-racism clause attached to Villa’s contract stipulates that ‘the player will not express or carry out, in any form, discriminatory ideas or acts, either during football games or in any club duties. The club will strongly condemn any discriminatory or racist act according to the agreement.’ Having been such a big messenger of the ANTI-RACISM drive himself, why would he be the one who would be on the wrong side of it?

5) The Video footage shows hardly anything-The fifth and the most important reason being that the actual game footage and the video on the website of Spanish Channel Cuatro TV which shows the whole fight gives no evidence at all that Villa abused Ozil’s religion. The fight took place because Ozil pushed Valdes lightly which Villa did not take to kindly, and thus got aggressive with Ozil. This provoked Ozil and resulted in an exchange of slaps and verbal abuse. There is no footage whatsoever from which you can make out that Villa insulted Ozil’s religion.

Conclusion-The conclusion of it all this being that though it was David Villa’s fault that he slapped Ozil first, he is not guilty of the allegation which states that he was being racist. It is yet another example of a fake piece of news being blown out of proportion by the social media. There are so many hate pages already against Villa on Facebook which is not very good, so guys, always try to find the truth first and then do such things.
