Vicente del Bosque’s Spain team, for the friendly against Italy on Wednesday suffered another setback after Barcelona’s Xavi was ruled out as he is yet to fully recover from the right calf injury. Earlier Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos was ruled out following his back injury.
Xavi was dropped from the squad following an examination by the federation Doctors who deemed him unfit for the friendly in Bari after the team assembled in Madrid. The mid-fielder is likely to travel back to Nou Camp where he will continue his treatment.
Bosque have already called up Malaga’s Nacho Monreal as a replacement for Ramos on Sunday but whether the coach of the World and Euro Champions will call up any replacement for Xavi is yet to be seen.
