The 2012/13 Premier League has been witness to a lot of ups and downs already. While the rise of Chelsea as a team, radically transforming their infamous defensive fold to a more attacking form has been notable, the drastic fall of an ambitious team like Queens Park Rangers has also been at the center of much attention. However, as far as the breaking news of the season is concerned, it obviously is concerned with the epic fall of Merseyside giants Liverpool, who are lagging far behind in the league table with 6 points from 7 matches. In fact, the team has won only 1 of their 7 matches, that too against a rather weak Norwich City.
As far as the blue side of the big spending rivalry is concerned, the team has been able to make up for the early mistakes that they had committed. Having spent on almost the double number of players than their city rivals, and that also in a single day, Manchester City have done well in terms of off-field business. But at the end of the day, what ultimately counts is the number of points won and not the number of players bought.
The Red part of the city created ripples across the footballing world by snatching the main asset of their London rivals right from under their nose. The feeling of emotion shown by Arsenal fans can well be compared to that of any United fan when their apple’s eye Ronaldo left for Real only a few years back. However, in case of Robin van Persie, the pain is a bit severe because the buyers were their direct rivals.
The Premier League is well-known for the passion shown by fans than anything else. And this can be evidently seen when we have a glimpse of the loyalty of fans from Arsenal and Liverpool. The passion here seems to be flowing among each and every individual. For them its the love of the game matters more than silverware.
The start of the 2012-13 season has been marked by a falcon-ish rise. Yes, I am talking about Swansea City here. The team has proved that their aim is to be counted among the best. Players like Michu and Ashley Williams have helped to put them in the drivers’ seat at the very beginning of the season, even though maintaining the standard still remains a challenge, as they continue to slip further down the table. Another team that has impressed this year (even though luck has continued to elude them) is Southampton. Having given both the teams from Manchester a run for their money, Southampton has done well to earn respect among football fans across the world.
Oops, I almost forgot to mention one big name. Under the leadership of Andres Villas Boas, Tottenham have thrived for success this season. Their biggest win of the season – the one against a rather shaky Manchester United, who have been severely criticized for their defensive lapses. Even though their Europa League performance haven’t been up to the mark, quite unlike his stint with Chelsea, AVB has done well to earn respect among his peers and critics.
While coming to the end of my article, I would like to conclude by saying that BPL has been witness to a complete overhaul during the last few seasons. With more and more world class players opting for the world’s most popular league, it is not far away when we will bear testimony to a completely different kind of football than what we have been accustomed to see so far.
