Sunday’s la liga match between Osasuna and Real Betis was temporarily suspended due to a barrier behind one of the goals collapsed under the weight of celebrating fans
At Osasuna’s Estadio Reyno de Navarra, home supporters behind Betis’ goal went up in a frenzy after Osasuna scored the first goal and began to pile towards the fence. The fence however soon gave away under the pressure of thousands of delirious fans, causing people to fall onto the pitch.
A total 68 people have been reported injured with a few now under critical care.
Security officials and medical staff were quick to reach the spot and take the injured away from the field. Play remained suspended as the fans were taken care of and resumed only after a break of one hour. Osasuna, however scored about 60 seconds after game restarted.
Osasuna beat Betis 2-1 but that was not enough to stop them from getting relegated.
