Ex-Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios could be set for a return to the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen from Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande after his agent confirmed they are in talks with the north German club.
“He has a keen interest in a move to Werder, they are a good club,” Barrios’ agent Giacomo Petralito told daily Bild.
“We are in talks with Werder, why shouldn’t there be a transfer at the end?”
Bremen’s director of sport Thomas Eichin was tight-lipped on the matter, telling north German newspaper Syke that there was “no news” on a possible transfer but confirmed Werder were talking to Barrios.
Barrios quit Dortmund in July 2012 after he lost his first-team place to Poland striker Robert Lewandowski.
But the 28-year-old Paraguay international was the club’s top scorer in their 2010-11 title-winning season with 16 goals.
He has scored three goals in nine games for Guangzhou since his arrival in the Chinese Super League, while Brazilian team-mate Elkeson is the league’s top scorer with 16.
