Swiss giants FC Basel has been fined Eur30000 by UEFA after Greenpeace activists protested in between the club’s Champions League clash against Schalke 04.

The protest, which halted the match for five minutes, was against Champions League sponsors Gazprom. The Energy giants were criticized by Greenpeace for their exploits in the Arctic Ocean and the activists displayed banners saying “Gazprom, don’t foul the Arctic” and “Free the Arctic 30” during their protests.

According to UEFA, the fine is a result of insufficient organization by the club which saw four activists descend on ropes from the roof of the St-Jakob Park stadium and unraveling the banners they prepared to show their protest.
