Schweinsteiger’s former club reveals Manchester United paid much less than believed to acquire his services

Bastian Schweinsteiger's first club, TSV 1860 Rosenheim, have revealed how much Manchester United paid for the Germany captain.

Schweinsteiger, 31, left Bayern Munich, where he had one year remaining on his contract, and joined United this summer. When making the move, it was reported that United paid close to € 20 million for the 2014 World Cup winner.

But his first club, Rosenheim, where he played until 1998, have now disclosed the exact transfer fee. According to FIFA statutes, Rosenheim, who currently play in the regional fifth tier Bayernliga Sud, are set to receive a windfall of €38,000 for the United star,and their chief financial officer, Sandro Sacco, has indicated that the transfer fee was €9 million.

"The transfer fee for Bastian was nine million euros and we were credited for two years," Sacco said to ESPN.

It was originally thought that the Old Trafford club had paid more for the midfielder's services, and TSV 1860 Rosenheim, where Schweinsteiger spent two years in his youth, will now receive compensation from the deal. The former Bayern star’s former club has stated through a press release that they already have received the first installment in August.

"We will receive the payment in two instalments, and after deducting the advisor and legal costs, we will receive €19,000," Sacco said.

"We already received the first instalment in August. "We are delighted about Bastian's incredible career and also that we profit from it financially as his first club," he added.

Schweinsteiger joined the Old Trafford outfit this transfer window after spending almost his entire career (15 years at senior level) for Bayern Munich. The German international has won 8 Bundesliga titles with the Bavarians and has one Champions League medal to his name.

The 31-year-old played an immense role for Germany in the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil as Die Mannschaft won the trophy by defeating Argentina in the finals.

Schweinsteiger has had a slow start to life at United mainly due to the fact that he has been disturbed by minor injuries. The Germany International has started two games for van Gaal’s side and is still yet to make a contribution for the Red Devils.

United resume their Premier League campaign after the international breaks as they take on league rivals Liverpool in a highly anticipated encounter on September 12.
