Reports have emerged that Manchester United are chasing Bastian Schweinsteiger’s signature. However, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola has said that Schweinsteiger is in his plans for next season but that the decision on his future has to be made by the club legend himself.
The Germany captain has spent his entire career so far at Bayern Munich and currently has one year remaining on his contract.
In a news conference, Guardiola addressed the issue. He said: “I can't make the call for Basti.
“He's a Bayern player, and he is under contract.
“He's an outstanding legend at the club, but he has to decide, not Pep or Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. He has a contract, and is part of my plans for next season.”
Between the transfer rumours and speculation that Bayern will be looking to inject some youth into their ageing squad, Schweinsteiger will have to make the tough call on whether he wants to stay in Germany at the ripe old age of 30.
He has had an injury-hit season this time around and has had to compete with the likes of Xabi Alonso and Thiago Alcantara for his regular starting spot in the Bayern team.
