French club Bastia’s striker Brandao has been charged with one month in prison and also been handed a €20,000 fine for head-butting Thiago Motta in August. Already serving the six-month suspension by LFP for the same offence, the Brazilian is scheduled to not play until the end of February.
A French lawyer had wanted the striker to be handed a eight month ban but the court in Paris chose for a custodial sentence. But according to reports in French newspaper Le Parisien, Brando’s lawyer will not be appealing against the decision because his sentence is reported to be commuted to community service. The striker, who had made just two appearances for the club after joining on a one-year deal in summer, admitted the charge of assault but had declined the allegation of showing premeditated aggression.
This incident occurred after PSG's 2-0 win during the early stages of the current Ligue 1 season. Bastia are currently 16th with three wins in 14 matches, and Brandao is unavailable. The 34-year-old frontman had represented the teams like Shakhtar Donetsk, Marseille, Cruzeiro, Gremio and Saint-Etienne before joining Bastia.
The video shows the tunnel cameras at the Parc des Princes where Brandao attacked the Italy international footballer Motta, which left him with a broken nose:
